Powerwave Technologies Upgrades Public Safety Communications at The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey

Project Demonstrates Powerwave's More Than Two Decades of Experience in In-Building Wireless Communications Solution Deployment

Santa Ana, Calif., September 22, 2008 - The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the agency that operates some of the nation's busiest and most vital transportation links, including John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia airports, and the 16-acre World Trade Center site, recently tapped Powerwave Technologies, Inc.,global source of wireless infrastructure solutions, to upgrade its public safety wireless communications networks.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has blazed trails in transportation, engineering, law and administration throughout its storied history dating back nearly 300 years. The agency continues to demonstrate its commitment to the people it serves, as well as the advancement of the region, by investing in upgrading and improving its facilities, as well as renewing and preserving its infrastructure.

Earlier this year, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey embarked on a project to replace its legacy equipment to comply with the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) 800MHz frequency re-banding requirements. As part of the project, Powerwave was hired to replace key wireless infrastructure components, including donor repeaters, as well as the fiber optic amplifiers for remote locations at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Among the benefits afforded by Powerwave's family of repeaters is the ability to be easily adjusted for re-banding without requiring the replacement of any of its repeater components. With Powerwave's repeaters, re-banding is accomplished simply by remotely (or locally) changing the pass bandwidth from the pre re-banding to the post re-banding frequencies.

"For more than two decades, Powerwave has been designing and installing wireless coverage systems that support and enhance public safety communications for airports, railways and a host of other transit venues," said Dave Quinn, vice president, Global Wireless Solutions. "We are proud to assist The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in fulfilling the FCC's 800MHz re-banding requirements for its public safety wireless network, while improving public safety communications for first responders."
The wireless coverage system for The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey was completed in August 2008.
In addition to The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Powerwave has expertise in deploying DAS systems for transportation venues such as the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA); Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport; and, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
